TheReports Outreach (TRO), a non-governmental organization, successfully held its annual conference, “The Reports Outreach Substance Abuse Conference 2024 (TROSAC24),” at the Cambridge Center of Excellence in Dzorwulu, Accra.
The conference gathered key stakeholders from various sectors, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, educators, and community leaders, to discuss the growing issue of substance abuse and mental health among Ghanaian youth.
Notable speakers at the event included Mrs. Juliana Amankwaah-Marfo, Principal Regulatory Officer at the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority; Mr. Smart Takyi Nixon, Executive Director of Beroses International; Miss Christiana Asiedu-Aseidua, founder of Chrissy Foundation; Miss Robertson Patrice from the Eclectic Love Foundation; Dr. Papa Kwesi from the Greater Accra Regional Hospital; and Miss Afia Owusu, a journalist from TV XYZ.
Mrs. Amankwaah-Marfo highlighted the FDA’s efforts to combat harmful substances in communities. She emphasized the need for ongoing education and targeted interventions to address the alarming misuse of drugs like tramadol among young people.
Eli Prince Aniewu, a recovering addict, shared his inspiring story and urged young people to avoid drugs. He advocated for increased outreach programs to engage marginalized individuals and promote open discussions about substance abuse.
Humphrey Asigbee, the founder of TheReports Outreach, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to raising awareness about substance abuse nationwide. He emphasized the importance of education, dialogue, and collective action in creating a healthier, drug-free society. Asigbee stressed the need for collaboration among stakeholders to drive meaningful change and ensure a brighter future for Ghanaian youth.
TROSAC24 was organized in partnership with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Beroses International, demonstrating the effectiveness of strategic partnerships in addressing complex social issues.
